About the Author
Irene McKinney is the author of four collections of poetry, including Six O'Clock Mine Report and Quick Fire and Slow Fire. McKinney is West Virginia's poet laureate, and has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. Her many honors include the Utah Arts Council Prize in Fiction, the Cincinnati Review Annual Poetry Prize, and an award from the Bread Loaf Writer's Conference. She is co-founder and editer of Trellis, a West Virginia poetry magazine. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Utah, and an M.A. from West Virginia University.
