About the Author
William Shakespeare (1564-1616) wrote at least thirty-seven plays, more than 150 sonnets, and two lengthy narrative poems.
Stephen Orgel is the Jackson Eli Reynolds Professor of Humanities at Stanford and the co-General Editor of the Pelican Shakespeare series. He has edited numerous editions of Shakespeare's plays, including the individual Pelican editions of King Lear, The Taming of the Shrew, Pericles, Macbeth, and The Sonnets.
