This book will present the first comprehensive coverage of structural health monitoring (SHM). It begins with a review of the various types of sensors currently used in SHM, including point sensors (traditional strain gauges and more recently developed optical fibre sensors) and non-contact systems (visual / photographic inspection, remote sensing, NDE techniques). The bulk of the text (chapters 4-7) describes the processing and interpretation of data from a number of sensors working in parallel. Chapters 8 and 9 consider issues related to the structures themselves. Chapter 10 looks at the design of a 'tailor made' SHM system, and the final chapter considers some specific case studies.
