This book is an attempt to bring together various and diverse scientific areas of research that have the common theme of wave propagation phenomena.
There are few branches of Science and Engineering in which wave propagation phenomena do not have a part to play. Example areas of basic research and technological applications are shock waves in compressible media, stress waves in solid materials, astrophysical flows, electromagnetic waves, magneto gas dynamics, geophysical phenomena, hydraulics, combustion-driven waves and many others.
There are fourteen contributions from distinguished researchers from eight countries. The emphasis is on modern numerical methods for waves. The Harten Memorial Lecture presented by P.L. Roe, University of Michigan, USA, deals with state-of-the-art numerical methods with novel applications.
