Book Description
Wavelets are considered by many to be the most powerful mathematical tool for signal and image processing. This unique CD-ROM boxed set contains three useful items: a copy of the text An Introduction to Wavelets by Charles Chui, a CD containing well-designed wavelets and signal processing software by computer scientist Steve Liu, and a booklet that serves both as the manual for the software and a quick reference guide to wavelet basics by electrical engineer Andrew Chan. The software supports all essential wavelets and allows users to put in additional wavelets of their choice and delete the ones they don't need. It also includes custom computation routines (in C-language) for wavelet signal processing. A flexible programming interface through the DLL standard allows the user to plug in new and original processing routines easily. This self-learning package provides the tools for the user to compare short time fourier transform and wavelet transform as well as the trade-off between time/spatial and frequency domain signal analysis.

From the Back Cover
Wavelets represent the state-of-the-art mathematical tools for signal and image processing. Indeed, wavelets will be included in the MPEG-4 video and JPEG-2000 image standards. Wavelets in a Box is a unique product, which provides a turnkey solution for wavelts newcomers. This box contains a paperback version of the best-selling An Introduction to Wavelets, as well as a copy of our new software package. Wavelet Toolware, which is software designed to provide the user with hands-on practice in the area of wavelet analysis and its applications. This software contains, among other algorithms and codes, the one-dimensional and two-dimensional Discrete Wavelt Transforms and their inverse transforms, as well as computations of the Continuous Wavelet Transform and the Short Time Fourier Transform. Simple signal processing applications, such as thresholding and noise removal, are als included as examples of how to use the software. Wavelet Toolware supports several different wavelts, including Daubechie orthonormal wavelets, linear B-spline and cubic B-spline wavelets, Battle-Lemarie spline wavelets, zeroth-and first-order Meyer wavelets, and biorthogonal Daubechies wavelets.
